Observation and Conceptual Understanding

The Explore phase introduces students to the fundamental ideas of light and matter through observation, curiosity-driven inquiry, and guided discussion. The aim of this stage is to create a conceptual foundation before moving into more structured experimentation.

Light is an electromagnetic wave that can travel through empty space and different materials. Light and matter interact primarily through four fundamental processes: absorption, reflection, transmission, and emission. These interactions depend on the chemical structure and physical properties of the material encountered by the electromagnetic radiation and the wavelength of the light.
