4. Energy classes

Within the European Union, many everyday products such as household appliances or light bulbs have a label stating their energy efficiency.

Devices that require more electricity contribute further to direct CO2 emissions and have labels tending towards red, as well as being marked with letters of the alphabet increasingly closer to zeta. Devices that, on the other hand, manage to optimize electricity consumption have labels that are increasingly green, based on their ability to prove efficient, and have the letter A; in turn, devices marked A may be accompanied by the sign ‘+’ and the greater these signs are, the better the energy efficiency. The European Commission's advice, for example, states that a class D dishwasher consumes twice as much energy as an A++ class one.
