Bio-economy represents a socio-economic system that links and connects economic activities that take into account all renewable bio-resources from both the soil and the sea in order to produce food, materials and energy.
In general, bio-economy is based on 4 macro-sectors:
- Agrifood
- Forestry
- Bioindustry
- Marine bioeconomy
The bioeconomy, therefore, encompasses the primary production and industrial sectors. Through and union of these two sectors, a path is created in which communities migrate towards a prosperous and environmentally friendly economy, in which dependence on fossil fuels and non-renewable resources is reduced.
This process is aimed at improving and limiting the loss of biodiversity and the transformation of the subsoil.

In addition, global population growth, climate change and a reduction in the resilience of ecosystems has resulted in the need for change, which translates into an increase in the use of renewable biological resources, a decrease in waste generation and greenhouse gas emissions, and in turn an increase in benefits for human health and the environment. |
